As a well-established and strongly supported society in the Scottish Borders, we have been entertaining audiences for over a century.
A Legacy of Excellence
Founded in 1907, Galashiels Amateur Operatic Society, as it was originally known, first began treading the boards with theatrical and comedic Gilbert and Sullivan productions – establishing its operatic roots and thespian flair with favourites from the Pirates of Penzance to The Mikado. The Society followed the emergence of the modern musical in the mid 1900s; incorporating popular culture and developing their craft, with shows by well known names such as Rodgers & Hammerstein, Stein and Lionel Bart, and putting the Society at the forefront of the operatic and dramatic scene.
Our legacy continues to grow, inspired now by the West End and Broadway, we welcome the introduction of new technologies and professional sound, set and lighting, allowing us to transform our amateur productions to a higher level.
From the Pavilion Theatre where it all started, and with a recent name change to better reflect the nature of the Society, GAOS Musical Theatre is built on a commitment to artistic excellence and a passion for the Performing Arts. Year after year, we bring stories to life, infusing them with music, dance, drama and emotion, creating memories that linger long after the final curtain falls.

Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat – we are delighted to bring this popular premier production to the Scottish Borders, straight off its hugely successful professional tour!
Rehearsals begin in August with dates pending for the Meet & Greet.
Show dates will be Monday 2nd 0 Saturday 7th March 2026.
